MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The National Cotton Council (NCC) welcomes the Trump Administration's announcement of a farm aid package designed to provide support to America's agricultural producers, including our nation's cotton farmers. The $12 billion in assistance under the Department of Agriculture’s newly designed Farmer Bridge Assistance program demonstrates a firm commitment to an industry that has faced challenges due to high production costs and trade disruptions.
“We are appreciative of President Trump for recognizing the dire financial conditions facing our farming communities and for taking action to assist,” said Patrick Johnson, NCC Chairman. “We look forward to working closely with the administration to ensure the effective implementation of these programs for the benefit of U.S. cotton producers.”
The NCC views this package as a positive step towards helping cotton producers withstand the current economic environment. Longer term, the NCC recognizes the critical need to build demand for U.S. cotton through the recently introduced Buying American Cotton Act.
