USDA’s March Prospective Plantings Report indicates U.S. producers intend to plant 13.7 million acres of cotton in 2020-21, down 0.3% from the previous year.
Upland area is projected to be 13.5 million acres, down 0.2% from 2019-20 while extra-long staple (ELS) area is projected at 228,000 acres, a 0.8% decrease.
The NCC’s planting intentions survey, released in early February, indicated U.S. cotton producers intend to plant 12.8 million acres of upland cotton and 224,000 acres of ELS.
