In its June acreage report, USDA estimated 2021-22 U.S. cotton plantings at 11.72 million acres, down 3.1% from 2020. Upland planted area is estimated to have decreased 2.6% to 11.58 million acres. ELS, or extra-long staple, cotton producers planted 142,000 acres, down 29.7%. USDA’s June projection for all cotton is down 317,000 acres from their initial 2021 estimate released in March.
